Title:
NS 54A Eastbound
Description:
NS 8000 Was Leading NS 54A Eastbound with PC 1073 Heritage Unit on 11/17/2012 when it collided with a Haggard Oil Truck carrying a type of crude oil residue mixed with saltwater just west of Mt. Carmel, IL near the Friendsville Coal Mine in Maud. The driver survived and was airlifted to Evansville, IN. The train crew were ok. Originally NS planned to bring in a rescue locomotive out of Princeton, IN, however the battery was dead and the unit failed to start. After 5 hours they finally brought in a new crew who took the damaged train to Princeton, IN.
